Carolco Picture purchased the rights for Spider-Man by 1990, and James Cameron wanted to create a Spider-Man movie in which Arnold Schwarzenegger would have played Doctor Octopus. Cameroon then wanted to use a different script that featured altered takes on the Sandman and Electro whereas the film wasn’t exactly kid-friendly.
Edward Furlong and Leonardo DiCaprio were two main choices for the role of Peter Parker, but eventually, Cameroon’s Spider-Man got caught in the web of legal red tape, and it remained just an idea.
