After it had been confirmed that Tim Burton’s classic comedy-fantasy horror movie Beetlejuice would be renewed for a sequel, fans started asking questions about more specific details and potential release date. Even though it’s been quite some time since then, many details are still kept under wraps, but read on to see what we know so far.

Bearing in mind that it has been more than 20 years since the original movie release, many people found it hard to believe that they would really make a sequel after so much time. But then Wynona Ryder, one of the original cast members showed up on Late Night With Seth Meyers and confirmed the speculations. “It was very hush-hush top secret … but then (Tim Burton) was doing some press for ‘Big Eyes’ and he did an on-camera interview and he said, ‘Oh yeah, we’re doing it, and Winona’s going to be in it.’ … If he said it, I can say it,” the actress said.

Last year, Tim Burton was too busy working on Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, a dark fantasy movie released in September 2016, so that was probably the main reason why he couldn’t work on Beetlejuice 2, as well. However, according to IGN, he emphasized how enthusiastic he was about the sequel, and Burton added that he couldn’t imagine it without Michael Keaton, who played the main character in the original version. “There’s only one Beetlejuice, and that’s Michael. There is a script, and I would love to work with him again. I think there is now a better chance than ever… I miss that character. There’s something that’s cathartic and amazing about it. I think it’s closer than ever,” Burton explained.

Finally, Seth Grahame-Smith, who is writing the script for the sequel, confirmed that Burton had enough on his plate with Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, but, more importantly, he confirmed that Michael Keaton would come back for their upcoming project. He said: “I’ve emailed with Michael Keaton. I know he’s excited about the idea. I know Tim is excited about the idea. Where it stands now is Tim’s got to get ready to make [‘Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children’], and then hopefully we are set, deals are done, and we’re waiting in the wings ready to go right after ‘Peregrine’s’ wraps up. The ideal timeline is we’re really getting into it toward the end of this year.”

However, if you are getting impatient to hear when we can expect it to be released, unfortunately, we still don’t have the answer to that question, as this has not been mentioned yet. But, we can promise we’ll keep you updated.
