Why Apple Inc. (AAPL) Must Not Name Its Next Phone As ‘iPhone 6S’?

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s next iPhone will most likely be named iPhone 6S as per several rumors surrounding the device. Every two years the firm is expected to launch an “S” generation of phones, and the same is expected in 2015 as well. But it appears, the name iPhone 6S is not appealing very much to one company, and it has requested Apple to use the name iPhone 7 for the device, says a report from BGR.

Apple iPhone 6s or iPhone 7?

For the same, a billboard is placed at New York’s Time Square, reading “Dear Universe, Please call it the iPhone 7. Sincerely, 6S marketing.” A similar sign was placed on a truck parked outside Apple’s glass retail store in Manhattan. “Dear Apple, please call it the iPhone 7,” the sign says. This attempt is made by a small advertising firm called firm “6S,” and the campaign could be seen as a genius move in terms of marketing.

In a press release, 6S Marketing President Chris Breikss said that they had named the firm as “6S” because it sounds like ‘success.’ Breikss told that when he was 11 years old, he and his father, noted a custom license plate on a Mercedes that read ‘SSSSSS.’ On giving it much thought, they realized that it translated to ‘six-esses’ or ‘successes’. And, after several years it became their firm’s name. Breikss said that their firms name is very important to them.

A smart marketing plan

When Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) came up with the iPhone 4S and 5S, then only they had realized that their unique name will not remain unique anymore, and will be linked with the most popular mobile device in the world, Breikss said. He added that Apple’s products are used by most of the employees in his firm on a daily basis, “and we’re flattered to potentially share the same name.” However, he would prefer if Apple agrees to their request and changes it to iPhone 7.

One thing we can be sure of is the ‘6S’ campaign is unlikely to have an impact on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), but it can’t be denied that this is an absolutely incredible marketing stunt. The success of the iPhone 6S (if it is named) will in no way depend on the 6S, rather, an association with Apple iPhone, have make this small firm quite popular.
