Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) Launches Mobile Development Suite

In an effort to bolster its mobile segment, Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) has disclosed its big plan, releasing a rich mobile developer suite. The company has been able to bundle monetization tools in the suite with an obvious goal of trying to lure app makers to its side. Mobile has been described as the future of the Internet as users and advertisers shift to the platform.

Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO)’s Mobile Development Suite is comprised of five key products that include Yahoo App Marketing, Yahoo Search, Yahoo Publishing, Flurry Analytics and Flurry Pulse. These tools are mostly weaved around Flurry, a mobile analytics app that Yahoo acquired in 2014. Flurry is already being used by over 200,000 app makers, who have been able to build 630,000 apps.

Powerful tools

With Flurry Pulse, Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) has given app developers the power to easily share their app insights with partners. As for Yahoo Search, developers will be able to perform in-app search, which is convenient and saves them time. Yahoo has been able to bring its tools such as Gemini and BrightRoll into the developer Suite, especially in Yahoo App Marketing and Yahoo App Publishing.

It is very clear that with the Yahoo Mobile Development Suite, Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) hopes woo many developers to its side with the promise of better returns on their efforts. In the end, Yahoo should be able to benefit from improvement in ads and search performance.

Mobile as a hobby at Yahoo
Since taking over the CEO position at Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO), Marissa Mayer has shown particular interest in mobile. She noted that Yahoo has previously treated mobile as a hobby, but that has changed since her coming. The company has increased focus on mobile and massive benefits are expected in the long run.

Mobile revenue

Mobile accounted for 20% of total revenue in the last quarter, meaning mobile $254 million mobile revenue in the quarter. The company boasts 575 million of monthly active mobile users, which allowed the company to generate $1.2 billion of mobile revenue last year.

Although that is a significant development, Yahoo’s rivals such as Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) are doing better. It remains to be seen how Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) fares with the introduction of Yahoo Mobile Development Suite.
