99. How old is the spike?
The old spike was discovered, and after it underwent the test at St. Marty’s University in Halifax where it was determined that it was old. But how old is it? Technician Dr. Xian Yuang and Associate Professor of Chemistry Dr. Christa Brosseau came to the conclusion that the spike was made of iron (90%) and carbon (10%).
The elements such as manganese and sulfur are missing, but there is carbon, which means that this spike was probably made before the 1700s, but it could be much older than that.
Marty said: “The data comes back…basically, that spike is probably hundreds of years old, several hundreds of years old. If it is prior to 1600s, then that’s the thing I keep looking for. Because people on the island 100 years ago is one thing, people on the island underground 100 years before the discovery of the Money Pit is really the definitive.”
