Created by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie and based on their comic book of the same name, Dark Matter was well-received after its first season release in 2015. Then, as described by critics and viewers, it became even more complex and interesting in Season 2, which premiered in 2016. That being said, we can say it was only a matter of time when the sequel would be confirmed. And now that moment has finally come – Syfy officially announced that Dark Matter will be renewed for Season 3.

Dark Matter follows a group of six people who wake up one day and find themselves on a starship called the Raza. They don’t have any recollection of their lives before that, and they don’t know why they are there either. What they eventually find out is that they are actually involved in a conspiracy.

As previously mentioned, this science fiction series received universal acclaim after the first season, and then its popularity reached even higher level after the next installment. In September last year, when a final couple of episodes aired, the number of viewers increased to 690,000. On Rotten Tomatoes, the second season holds the score of 4.5 out of 5, and it has a 92% approval rating, making it one of the Syfy’s best projects. Based on this, we can only expect that the upcoming season will be at least this successful and probably even better.

What’s important for now is that the renewal has been confirmed and that we can expect it sometime this year. Syfy has not revealed the exact release date. However, if we take into consideration the release pattern of the previous two seasons, we might guess that Season 3 will probably be delivered this summer ( the first one was aired in June 2015, the sequel came out in July 2016).
