DC plans to film the movie called Shazam!, as we have found out at Comic Con earlier this week. It is a story about an orphan who acquires incredible powers, but in his debut, Shazam will not face the greatest villain.

Geoff Johns, the chief creative officer at DC and Jon Berg, architect of the DC Extended Universe confirmed that Dwayne Johnson is not going to appear in the new film, Yahoo Movies report.

“We haven’t announced any casting yet,” Johns said. “But Dwayne isn’t going to be in this film. He’s still doing Black Adam, but he won’t be in Shazam!”

However, Johnson and DC plan to develop Black Adam concurrent with Shazam!, and at some point in the future, we are going to watch to characters facing off on the screen. David F. Sandberg is going to direct Shazam!, which production will start early next year, while the movie is expected to be launched in 2019.

Fawcett Comics created Shazam back in 1939 to rival Superman, and his original name was Captain Marvel. The character was acquired by DC in the 1970s and to avoid confusion with Marvel Comics’ same-named superhero the character was renamed to Shazam.

Most of the origin stories say that Billy Batson is an orphan boy who meets an ancient wizard who gave Billy godlike powers by shouting “Shazam!” The fans should know that Shazam is actually an acronym for those powers – the wisdom of Solomon, Hercules’ strength, Atlas’ stamina, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and Mercury’s speed.

The upcoming movie is not going to be the first screen adaptation, though. Back in 1941, there was a Republic serialized version, while the TV show commenced in the 1970s. However, none of those adaptations starred Sinbad.
