LG Electronics Inc Confirms LifeBand Touch With iOS and Android Pairing

LG Electronics Inc. (KRX:066570) (KRX:066575) has unveiled a wearable fitness gear, LifeBand touch, which would be compatible with iOS and Android powered devices.  The company is making efforts to take market share from the sports brands like Nike, who unveiled Fuel Band.

LG set to challenge Nike

The gadget can be tied on the wrist and will keep the record of the physical activity like steps taken, distance covered along with the amount of calorie consumption. The device can be used to receive incoming calls and play/control music when connected with Android or iOS through Bluetooth 4.0. The accessory will only be available in black.

LG has not yet revealed the launch date or price of the gadget, but it will be showcased in the upcoming CES. During the CES 2013, LG revealed its Activity Tracker Wristband, but did not bring it in the market. Few days earlier, a visual of the Lifeband touch was leaked and now the company itself has confirmed the news.

Furthermore, the wearable device will also have some special earphones – the Heart Rate Earphone – a new product that would reportedly use an optical sensor technology to monitor blood flow in the ear and determine the heart rate.

WebOS TV may also be showcased

Apart from the LifeBand Touch, the South Korean electronic major is also showing tit bits of its WebOS TV at the CES show floor before announcing it officially. LG brought WebOS from HP last year, in March, to advance its smart TV development. The features of the TV include easy-to-use connection (Simple Connect), easy-to-use conversion (Simple Switching) and search (Simple Discovery).

According to LG, to increase the efficiency of the TV it has inbuilt a technology, which can identify the speech and behaviour. The TV is expected to be launch in the Korean markets followed by the United States and European market.

Through Simple connection, LG has tried to ease out the process of setting up the unit by reading an easy to understand user guide. On switching the TV, for the first time, the user can view the guidelines to set up the TV, in the form of animated characters. In Simple Switching, the user could use the launcher to easily toggle between different tasks and favourite apps along with real time searches and more. Likewise, in Simple Discovery a user would be able to see the latest content available, in the LG store.
