Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:005930)Â has become the first smartphone maker to launch a flexible smartphone. Galaxy Round the name given by the company to its new smartphone has the latest flexible screen technology apart from other impressive features, announced Samsung announced late Tuesday evening.
Galaxy Round will be much more user friendly
Galaxy Round is much like Galaxy S3 and S4 having a minimal dip in the centre that allows the device to bend around the vertical axis. The phone body has a curve that is compatible with the outlines of person face. Samsung claims that, with this curve, users will find it easier to control their apps, music, and photos.
In a statement released by Samsung, it stated that users can enjoy the round integration effect like the Roll Effect, which gives an ease to check information like date, time, missed call and battery easily when the home screen is off. Further, Samsung explained that if music is playing on Galaxy Round and the home screen in off then a short press to left will play the previous song, and that to right will play the next track. For pictures and videos, the ‘Side Mirror’ feature enables users to gain access to the list of the album content with a left and right tilt.
Other Players entering the market soon
Samsung released the unique gadgets after suffering a decline in its core smartphone market, which triggered the company to look for other ways to allure buyers. Curve display can become popular among the users as the concept is new and innovative, and there have been news previously that Apple and Nokia are also working on their curved devices. Recently, another Asian electronic leader, LG announced plans to launch its first bendable smartphone coded the G Flex within a few weeks.
Galaxy round specifications include a 5.7-inch 1080p screen with HD Super AMOLED display. The smartphone is 7.9mm thick, weighs 154g, and has a 2800mAh battery. The device is powered by 2.3GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.3, has 3GB of RAM. The smartphone also has a 13-megapixel camera.
Korean major will launch Galaxy Round first in South Korean in Luxury Brown color followed by other colors. Date for the international launch has not come out yet.
