Shameless Season 8 – Cast Additions, News and Updates

The season eight of Shameless will soon be aired, and we already have some hints about the show. First of all, Jessica Szohr who played in Gossip Girl is going to join the cast, and because of this, Fiona’s newly bought apartment will be a significant aspect in the new season. Szohr will play the role of Nessa, a girl who lives in Fi’s new apartment building and prefer other girls.

The premiere of the new episodes will be this fall, and this is great news for the fans of the show. Emmy Rossum as Fiona Gallagher is returning, of course, and last year she wrote this on Twitter: “Playing Fiona Gallagher has been one of the great privileges of my life. I’m so happy to continue w[ork] with my SHAMELESS family! Back to work in May!”

 Shameless Season 8 Release Date

Nothing official has been confirmed so far, but Shameless is expected to return in fall 2017. The first episode of the seventh season was aired on October 2, 2016, so expect the first Sunday in October to be the release date of the eighth season.

Contract Drama

There has been some contract negotiation drama between Ms. Rossum and Warner Bros. Television, and at one point the talks reached a dead end. Rossum wanted a pay raise because she has been paid less than the other major actor in the show, William H. Macy and she thought that being the main character would bring her more money.

However, we need to take into account that Macy was already an established actor before Shameless and he earned an Oscar nomination for the Coen Brothers film Fargo. But Rossum was also famous, and she received praise and awards for her work, plus she appeared in The Day After Tomorrow.

We need to mention that Shameless has become Fiona’s show more than anyone else’s and you would expect that Rossum is given a raise. Warner Bros. Television offered Rossum the salary identical to Macy’s, but she and her agent declined and asked for more money. This is an odd request, and usually, in Hollywood, leading actors are paid the same. For example, in later years, every leading actor in Friends had the same salary, whereas, in Game of Thrones, main characters all get $500,000 per episode.

Macy supports Rossum however, and he said: “Emmy Rossum deserves she’s asking for.”
