When Ryback returned from an injury in 2012, he was placed at the top of the WWE and at that time, he was having a feud with CM Punk, following John Cena’s injury. Ryback was also fighting Shield before he was out of the title contention and he faced Mark Henry at WrestleMania 29, losing here as well. When the World’s Strongest Man assaulted Cena, it was Ryback who saved him.

However, it didn’t take long for him to turn heel. He attacked Cena, and he blamed him for not supporting him during the crusade against The Shield.
