Tony Romo is leaving NFL and the responses about that are “overwhelming”!

Well, it seems that Tony Romo has been called to take the court on Tuesday night for the Dallas Mavericks, and he just isn’t sure if he should be nervous or what. If you thought that he is going to play in the Mavericks’ final home game of the NBA season, then you are wrong, this former Dallas Cowboys quarterback will just take part in a team photo and the morning shootaround as well as squad meetings, early pregame warm-ups and introductions. But that is not bad too, is it?!

The man behind this idea was Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban. He wanted to make a tribute to Romo, and he pitched this idea to Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones. Romo also got a call from Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle, as well as a text message from Dirk Nowitzki saying he would appreciate if he actually takes part at all of this. Romo gave a statement after the shootaround saying “At first I was just feeling like I didn’t deserve any of that.” He continued by adding “No one does, but at the same time just the honor that the organization — and Coach and Mark and Dirk — to just do something like that, it just makes you feel special.”

Romo was, it’s little to say, overwhelmed and you can see that from his statement that says “Standing here today, I feel a little embarrassed, to be honest, in the sense that you’re lucky enough to be in a position that someone cares enough to do something to honor you. I’m a lucky guy.”

If you recall previous news regarding the Romo situation, then you are aware that he was between two choices, release and retire or transfer to another team. Jerry Jones assured everybody that Romo still has other options, and it seems that Romo actually went for the third door. After his release from the Cowboys last week, after which he ended his 14-year run with the team which made him franchise leader in touchdown passes and passing yards, Romo joined CBS Sports to become its lead NFL analyst.

Since Romo was such a huge deal to Cowboys they decided to do something special, and it came in the form of teammates praising Romo on social media, Romo’s No. 9 on the digital boards outside of The Star, their new practice facility has been, put up as well as in downtown where Omni lit up the Dallas skyline with the No. 9 too. Romo’s reaction to all of this is “It’s been overwhelming. I had close to 600 text messages that I’m still working on and then a hundred and something calls and a bunch of other stuff. I guess it just makes you feel like you’ve accomplished something in some ways, even though I feel like I left something out there that I always wanted to accomplish. And I’ve got to live with that. That’s part of playing sports. It doesn’t always go the way you expect. You can put everything into it and sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t.”

Romo is expected to go through the early pregame shooting drills with the Mavericks and go through the layup line in uniform, after which he will be introduced to the crowd, and it is also expected that Nowitzki will say a few words of praise about this man. It is very likely that a number of Romo’s teammates, as well as Cowboys coach Jason Garrett, will be in attendance. At the end of all this Romo made a joke saying “I’m pretty sure I cannot go and play 10 or 15 minutes. Pretty sure if I did, I’d probably wake up tomorrow feeling a little sore. We don’t like that at my age.”
