3 Defensive Picks For Cowboys In 2018 NFL Draft

1DT Maurice Hurst, Michigan

DT Maurice Hurst, Michigan
In 2014 Cowboys intended to pick Aaron Donald who was one of the best DT in the draft. They planned to trade down in order to pick him before they realized that he wouldn’t be available even with their original pick. Instead, he was selected by Rams with the 13th pick. That year Cowboys decided to take the best player available with their pick and that player was Zack Martin. The decision was one of their best in recent years as Martin was an All-Pro every year since entering the league.

The player that resembles Aaron Donald the most in the upcoming draft is Maurice Hurst.

According to several mock drafts he will slide into the late first round, but in the months before the draft, his stocks might jump. Hurst has perfect first-step and can get into the backfield at fantastic speed. Teams are a bit hesitant towards him because of his size, but if you remember the situation was similar with Donald. Last year Hurst had 58 tackles, with 13 of them being for a loss. The number of sacks was 5.5. During his four year tenure at Michigan, he had 129 tackles and 13.5 sacks.

Maurice Hurst doesn’t exactly fit the profile of a DT that Cowboys need, but with his quality, if he falls to them at 19 they shouldn’t pass on him. Last year they picked Taco Charlton from Michigan in the first round, maybe they should choose another Michigan product this year.
